COMMENT: Ofgem ‘Connect Update: Demand Connections Reform’
Aurora Utilities Limited today welcomes Ofgem‘s latest ‘Connect Update: Demand Connections Reform’ publication, and the measures it sets out to accelerate UK grid connections and unlock network capacity.
Removing speculative projects from the queue is an important step forward, but accelerating connections also requires greater delivery capacity across the sector.
A recent study that Aurora commissioned found that 80% of developers remain concerned about supply-chain constraints, highlighting why reforms that increase self-build opportunities, asset adoption and customer choice are so important.
We are particularly encouraged by Ofgem’s commitment to expanding contestable delivery models and progressing plans for an Independent Transmission Owner (ITO) licence, of which we have actively advocated for through our ongoing engagement with Ofgem.
Greater competition can play a critical role in bringing additional investment, technical capability, and innovation into the market, helping strategic projects connect quicker.
These proposed reforms represent a positive step towards a faster, more flexible and more investable connections process across Great Britain.
