  • Aurora named IDNO of choice for Conrad Energy’s nationwide renewable asset development programme
  • Pipeline consists of 1.2GW of solar and battery projects to power communities across the UK
  • Flexible design and equipment choices to speed grid connections and drive the energy transition

Aurora Utilities Limited (Aurora), a fast-growing Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO), has been selected by leading independent power producer, Conrad Energy, as its preferred network operator to connect a major new portfolio of renewable energy projects across the United Kingdom.

Aurora will adopt and operate the electrical infrastructure for Conrad Energy’s full 1.2GW pipeline of solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. Delivered over the next three to five years, this partnership has the potential to significantly expand the UK’s renewable generation and storage capacity and accelerate progress towards national net zero targets.

Fast, flexible, future-ready

Conrad Energy chose Aurora for its fast, flexible and straightforward approach to grid connections. Aurora’s expertise in supporting connections up to 132 kV, combined with a curated G81 equipment list, gives Conrad Energy bespoke design options and rapid delivery times, reducing supply-chain risk while maintaining exceptional reliability and safety.

Charlie Hesketh, Strategy & Investments Director at Aurora, commented: “Conrad Energy is a significant player in the UK’s clean power revolution. By partnering with Aurora, they gain the speed, technical excellence and agility needed to bring renewable capacity online at scale and pace; strengthening the UK’s electricity network and accelerating the journey to net zero.”

This collaboration reinforces Aurora’s strategy of connecting renewable projects at scale, while supporting Conrad Energy’s mission to deliver reliable, sustainable power to communities nationwide.

Phil Silk, Development Director at Conrad Energy, said: “Aurora’s technical insight and agile mindset made them the natural choice for our clean energy programme. The team’s commitment to innovation and collaboration will help us bring our pipeline online quickly, driving a more resilient and sustainable energy system for the UK.”

Powering a cleaner tomorrow

Aurora was granted a UK-wide licence by Ofgem in April 2024, and launched in July 2024. The IDNO continues to expand its renewable connections portfolio, enabling economic growth and long-term sustainability through dependable grid solutions.
